The Ducati 999 has been upgraded for 2006. Already a classic
in its field, Ducati has made the bike better than ever. Although
it called the Ducati 999 it is actually a 998cc liquid cooled
L-twin four strokes that has more than enough to keep even the
most power hungry happy.
They still use the classic Ducati valve system, with 4 per
cylinder and a fuel injection system and a compression ratio
of 11.4 to 1. This gives you great acceleration, top speed and
a very respectable 140-brake horsepower at 9750 rpm. This together
with a weight of around 410 pounds, means that every bit of
power can be used to its best advantage.
The handling is of course faultless, but then with a Ducati
you would expect that. It also has a very good racing style
faring that is very effective at keeping the worst of the weather
off of you and making a good aerodynamic shape to create less
wind resistance. The frame is a steel tubular trellis with upside
down adjustable forks and a single Showa monoshock. The wheels
are five spoke alloys with 17" wheels front and rear. Twin
320mm disks at the front and a single 240mm disk at the rear
supply the braking power.
The Ducati 999 2006 is a real sports bike in the traditional
Italian mould. So if you are a fan of the whole race replica
thing and don't mind losing a bit of luxery in return for great
handling and power then it might be the bike for you.
