The Ducati name has always been linked to great handling bikes and the 2006 Ducati 749 is no different. The new Ducati is a classic in the making and looks sure to be one of the best bikes of the year. In classic Ducati red it makes a striking sight on any street. In spite of the fact that it is a middleweight twin, the performance is what you would expect. Although the Japanese fours have much higher revving engines, the Ducati not only provides blistering acceleration and a top speed that is much higher that you will ever use, it also has a great deal of torque for it's size, giving around 60.8 feet.lbs at just over 8,500revs. This makes it a lot more useable than most other high performance bikes. The engine is a 748cc twin with 4 valves per cylinder and a compression ratio of 12.3 to 1, it also has a Marelli fuel injection system. This engine is a real workhorse and gives you the flexibility to use the bike as a real mode of transport as well as a sunny day fun machine. But the real joy of a Ducati is the handling and the Ducati
749 has true sports bike feel. It is not really suited to long
distance cruising but as a road sports bike it really excels
and it is worth looking for some great winding roads to put
